The Hockey Quilt

I have been a hockey fan since birth, I think. I used to watch the Detroit Red Wings with my dad (his favourite team). When I was child I was mesmorized with Bobby Orr and since I planned to marry him Boston became my favourite team. I still have a huge crush on him and have had a chance to meet his dad before he passed away and Sarah had a chance to interview Bobby and get me the classic photo; autographed…a dream. Sadly though, I have not been a Boston fan since the early nineties when Mario caught my eye. I have been a Pittsburgh Penguins Fan every since. I was thrilled that they won the Stanley Cup in 2008 and keep hoping they win again while Malkin, Crosby & Fleury are all together. I started working on this quilt in 2007 and it took me 2 1/2 years to complete since I can’t do just one project to completion :).

It got known everywhere I took as that “damn hockey quilt” so the moniker just stuck but I did change the name to “The Hockey Quilt”

My apologies about it being wrong way; didn’t want to redo all photos…anyway here it is in its entirety

little dark but here is the embroidered “Pittsburgh Penguins” at the bottom of the quilt.

close up of the appliqued Penguin player in the centre of the quilt

what are the changes of finding a machine embroidered penguin online? I was thrilled to find it (though i thought it was bit pricey)

closeup of the “icicles” that surround the applique

closeup of one of the corners that are all black (of course) that shows a couple of the numerous crests on the quilt that I collected that related to the Pens
just a picture of the backing which is (of course) hockey players

Always, a true Canadian, a die-hard hockey fan
